“We are all storytellers. We all live in a network of stories. There isn’t a stronger connection between people than storytelling.”

Jimmy Neil Smith

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be an artist… and an astronaut, and a writer, and an actress, and a bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe, etc. etc. etc…

I ended up being an artist who also writes. I’m Leigha, an illustrator and comics artist living in Eastern Iowa, USA, and I’m also a librarian. I graduated from Ohio University with a BFA in Printmaking, and also Kent State University with a Master’s in Library and Information Science. If you didn’t already figure it out, I love books. Picture books, comics, and graphic novels are some of my favorite ways to tell a story (I also have a deep love for music, another form of storytelling, which more than often inspires my illustration work).

Telling stories has been a huge part of my life since early childhood. My grandma would bring small pads of scrap paper home from work and I’d sit for hours, drawing my own stories and narrating them outloud since I didn’t know how to write yet. And I couldn’t forget bedtimes when my older sister would whisper from the bottom bunk, “Leigha, tell me a story.”

After having two wonderful children of my own, I was drawn (pun intended) into the world of picture books. I love how picture books can be used in so many different ways- to teach, to heal, to connect, and mostly foster a love of reading and storytelling in kids at their earliest ages. After all, we each have a unique story to tell.

Hope you find some joy and connection in my little corner of the internet.
